Ergonomic Evaluation: An ergonomic evaluation of each workstation or job can help identify high injury risk areas, correct stressful positions or activities, and make recommendations to make performing the job more efficient.
Job Demand Analysis/Functional Job Description: A job demands analysis provides the exact physical demand characteristics required to perform a job. This information is used to design and implement the pre-placement physical.
Pre-Placement Physical: A pre-placement physical involves a detailed medical history review, of which the employer is not able to ask, and a thorough musculoskeletal physical evaluation to discover any pre-existing conditions that might put the worker at risk for further injury. It also ensures that the applicant is physically and mentally capable of performing the essential physical demands of the job safely with good body mechanics. It provides a baseline of the physical characteristics of each employee. Pass/Fail results are available immediately to the employer.
Onsite Physical Therapy: Onsite physical therapy to triage and treat minor musculoskeletal complaints to prevent them from becoming recordable injuries. A licensed physical therapist can evaluate the injury, provide basic treatment, and education to the injured employee, and asses the job for risk factors. Provide job coaching and assist in assuring the employee can continue working safely. The therapist can provide early intervention to minor complaints before they become full-blown injuries. They can also provide injury prevention programs including body mechanics and exercises to prevent injury.
Functional Capacity Evaluations: Functional capacity evaluations are done to determine the current physical capabilities or limitations of an injured employee and to assess whether they can physically return to their job description. It is a comprehensive evaluation lasting 2-3 hours including a musculoskeletal evaluation, cardiovascular assessment, and functional testing. This test is helpful in determining the validity of effort, and documenting inconsistencies, if present.
